Don Florentino Castro

The Finca La Uruca Coffee Plantation featured above belonged to Don Florentino Castro, one of Costa Rica's most prosperous plantation owners during the turn of the century. This plantation consisted of 450 hectares (1,112 acres) of prime real estate in La Uruca, now an industrial suburb of San José. Doña Hilda Castro, one of his many nieces, and don Marco Aurelio Castro, one of his many nephews, still live on a portion of the original estate.

The La Uruca Coffee Plantation was but one of Don Florentino's many plantations. His vast holdings also included:

• Finca La Laguna, a coffee plantation in Tres Rios.

• Finca La Cañada, a dairy farm in the highlands of Cartago.
• Finca El Volcán, a dairy farm in Turrialba.
• Finca La Margot, a coffee plantation in Turrialba.
• Finca Azul, a cattle ranch and coffee and sugar cane plantation also in Turrialba.
• Finca Paso Hondo, a cattle ranch in Cañas.
